Hometown Treasures: Capital Region
About this event
Hometown Treasures: Capital Region brings the National Museum of African American History and Culture into the community for two days of family history, cultural discovery, and hands-on preservation experiences.
Join us Friday, September 18, and Saturday, September 19, at the Bette Carol Thompson Scotland Neighborhood Recreation Center in Potomac, Maryland. Attend either day—or join us for both. This is a free event!
This event takes place in Potomac, Maryland, not at the museum in Washington, D.C.
Registration is encouraged and opens August 18. Reserve a one-on-one consultation with preservation specialists to receive a professional review of your family treasures and heirlooms, and learn how to protect them for generations to come.
A Community Expo will also be available and is free to attend. Join local cultural, historical, and heritage organizations for a day of hands-on preservation workshops, oral history training, interactive art and quilting demonstrations, and guided tours.
The National Museum of African American History and Culture presents this event in collaboration with the Glenstone Museum and Juneteenth Scotland Foundation.
