AAHGS Sandhills: Juneteenth Soldiers of Northeastern North Carolina

About this event

Sandhills Chapter is partnering with Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Fayetteville, North Carolina to host “Juneteenth Soldiers of Northeastern North Carolina” presented by Marvin Tupper Jones on June 19, 2025. We will celebrate the legacy of Black North Carolina soldiers who took part in the 1865 military action in Galveston, Texas. The soldiers’ participation helped enforce emancipation.

This event will be held at the JD Fuller RAC in Fayetteville, NC.

Mr. Marvin Tupper Jones is from the great District of Columbia. He is the founder of the Chowan Discovery Group whose mission is to research, document, preserve and present the 400+ year-old history of the land-owning tri-racial people of color of the Winton Triangle, an area centered in Hertford County, North Carolina.

The Winton Triangle digital collection now has over 90,000 files of photographs, and has documents, maps, audio and video recordings to preserve the four-hundred-year history of the people of color in this part of eastern North Carolina. He descends from two men of color who served in the American Revolution, Jesse Weaver and James Robbins.
