AAHGS Commemorates Memorial Day With Genealogical Focus

Genealogy as History, History as Genealogy:

The Duality of Discovering Your Ancestors

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As Americans commemorate military men and women this Memorial Day weekend, the Afro-American Historical and Genealogy Society (AAHGS) salutes and underscores the millions of families who are descendants of Afro-Americans who were a part of history.

AAHGS President Baba Gene Stephenson said, “Our 2021 annual conference will focus on genealogy as history and history as genealogy and perhaps nowhere is this more evident than in American military history. As we reflect on the significance of Memorial Day, we find pride in the direct contributions of our ancestors when we conduct genealogical research of our family lineage and discover the connections.”

For the 42nd AAHGS annual conference, taking place virtually October 13-16, the theme is “Genealogy as History, History as Genealogy: The Duality of Discovering Your Ancestors.” Visit the website: aahgs.org/conference for conference news and updates.  Registration details are coming soon.
