The Pennsylvania Tapestry: Context & Strategies for Genealogists (virtual)
About this event
"The Pennsylvania Tapestry: Context & Strategies for Genealogists" provides an overview for navigating the unique jurisdictional and historical complexities of the Keystone State, focusing on historical context and perspective as well as research strategies and resources. The session, presented by Karen Ellingson, examines physical and jurisdictional geography, explaining how shifting county boundaries and the formidable Appalachian Barrier dictate where ancestral records – such as wills, deeds, and taxes – are located today. We will explore "The Peopling of Pennsylvania," looking at the diverse ethnicities, faiths, and industrial occupations that have defined the state from its pre-charter origins to the modern era.
The presentation introduces essential research strategies and resources, featuring the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania as a partner for researchers seeking to weave their own family threads into the state’s historical fabric.
