Please join AAHGS National Transcribe-a-thon:
- The AAHGS National Transcribe-a-thon is a special project in collaboration with the Civil War Blue Jackets. Read more about the Civil War Blue Jackets at CivilWarBlueJackets.com.
- AAHGS will:
- Transcribe 10,000 workflows in search of African American Navy Sailors who served on Civil War vessels between 1862-1866.
- Review Civil War Navy Sailor Muster Rolls in a database of 118,000 records located on Zooniverse. It is estimated the database holds 20,000 names of sailors of African descent.
- Process the Civil War Blue Jackets Classification which involves choosing "workflows" (e.g., Name, Rank, Occupation, Date enlisted, Physical description, etc.)
- AAHGS members, students, family, and friends as well as associated historical and genealogical societies and library staff may register for transcribing with the Civil War Blue Jackets project at CivilWarBlueJackets.com. Select Zooniverse at the top left corner of the homepage to be directed to Zooniverse.
- The AAHGS Civil War Blue Jackets special transcribing project started on June 11 and will end on November 11, 2023, Veterans Day 2023.
